Who is James C. Masie? 

The tournament is named in honor of James Calvin Masie, a long time member of American Legion Post 91 and veteran of World War II. His name was chosen by a select panel of Post 91 members.

Jim Masie was an avid golfer and sports fan who strongly believed in higher education. Although Jim did not graduate from high school; he firmly believed in obtaining as much education as possible. He studied electricity at Connelly Trade School in Pittsburgh. At the age of 17, Jim enlisted in the Navy and served on the Battleship U.S.S. North Carolina as a Fire Control Technician until his discharge at the end of the war. After his discharge, Jim held many jobs until he was hired as a Maintenance Electrician for General Motors. Several years later he retired from GM as Maintenance Superintendent at the Lordstown Plant near Youngstown.

Jim passed away in 1996 and is survived by his wife Peg. They have 4 sons… Jim, Tom, George and Greg and proud grandparents to several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Many members of the Masie Family participates in the outing by helping out and/or golfing. They are very proud Jim’s name is associated with a great cause.
